yup! reese is officially six months old, half a year, on his way! i can't believe it! he has come from being a little tiny infant that could barely open his eyes to a thriving toddler look a like.
smiling in his crib
eating his dinner
just after bath time
reese with hair, what a elvis stud muff!
happy little man
drinking his juice
he has come along way. this past month he has learned to hold his own bottle, will roll from his back to his stomach (he has only done it a couple of times), but he rolls from his back to both sides all the time. he also love to squeal and yell and talk and talk and talk. i took him to the doctor on wednesday and here are his measurements:
Head- 44 cm in the 55th%
Weight- 20 lbs. 4 oz. in the 95th %
Height- 29 1/4 inches over the 97th%
he is a very big boy.
it was really, really sad. on wednesday night i was feeding reese his dinner and he wasn't acting overly hungry, but i just kept shoveling it into his mouth. well about fifteen minutes later he was laying on his play mat and brad was watching him and he had a sick little look on his face, and he threw up everything i had just fed him. it went all over his head and back and neck and chest, all over the playmat, just everywhere. brad and i both just looked at each other like, "what do we do?" reese hasn't ever had a bad reaction to his shots until now. so we stripped the little guy got him back in the tub for a rinse, and called the doctor. i got him dressed and we took his temperature and it was about 103.1. i held him and rocked him and his little hands were shaking. the doc told us to just feed him pedialyte tonight. so brad ran to the store while i rocked and rocked and rocked. little reese was going in and out of sleep and was just miserable. we gave him a bottle and he sucked it right down. he kept getting goose bumps on his little chubby arms. it just about broke my heart. i finally got him to sleep but he was up in the night a few times. i had to go to work the next morning so i took him to my parent's house, luckily brad was able to get off work at about ten and take him home. he still was pretty sick. but today he is feeling much better. smiling and laughing and being his adorable self. i love my little guy.
on wednesday night we found out that brad's real father had a heart attack while riding his bike. brad really doesn't know him very well, he has only seen him twice in his adult life, and both times is since we have been married. we decided we should go down to the funeral. he lived in texas. we found a flight for friday and matt, jenn, bryce, sal and bentley all came with us. lauren met us down there since she lives in oregan. this is reese at the airport.
when our flight got in it was really late. we had to fly into dallas to get cheap flights but the funeral was in austin, so we drove three hours and didn't get into our motel til about 1 0r 2 in the morning. we shared a room with bryce, sal and bent. love how bentley is harrassing reese!
we did a whole lot of driving. the funeral was on saturday afternoon. it was really close to the hotel and in a lutheran church. first they had a viewing, we met alot of family that we didn't even know about. there were lots of aunts and uncles and cousins there. the funeral was different than any other one i had been to because the preacher was the one who spoke the whole time. every other funeral i had ever been to the family spoke. it's really sad that he died. it's really sad that brad has never felt love from him before. he wasn't upset. i know that sounds really bad, that brad wasn't upset at all. but vern never put forth an effort to get to know him. he never made any contact with him until about three or four years ago and by then it was too late. brad has other father figures in his life, that have taken his place.
that night we went to the cantwell's for bbq brisket, they lived in a little town called buda. it was out in the boonies and it seemed like something from a movie to me. the family was so nice though, they went out of their way to be friendly to us, telling brad and his brothers and sister that they were sad that they don't know him better, that they never got to see them grow up. there was a lot of love.
vern's wife donna came later and she is about the sweetest, kindest lady i have ever met. she was very strong through the whole thing and very Christ-like. i am keeping her in my prayers. i hope she knows that we would love to keep in contact with her. (also donna if you read this, sorry we didn't make it to breakfast on monday. i really wanted to say good bye and give you a big hug, but brad and i had to work some things out. we got in a fight and i am very sad that we didn't make it.)
so on sunday we went out to a little town called round top. bryce lived there when he lived in texas. we ate at this great little restraunt called royers. bryce knew the owner and we actually ended up eating for free. it was awesome. the food was so delicous. this little town had a population of 77 people. it had the cutest little town square and darling houses of all different colors. i could live there... if there was a target nearby!
we walked around town and went in all the little shops and then played football at the park. i threw the football and it hit reese's stroller and scared the crap out of the poor little guy! what a mean mommy! oops, it was an accident.
see how happy reese is now that spring is here??? ok he was already happy, but i am so so glad for the warm weather. it's really funny that something that you have no control over can make such a nice impact.
reese and i have started going on a lot more walks. this day it was a wee bit windy so i bundled him up all nice. doesn't he look excited to go out into the bright new world?
raspberries, raspberries, raspberries.. someone i know LOVES to make raspberries, his faces are so cute, i could do an entire post with all the silly faces he pulls when he blows.
reese says, "can you see the pee all over my face??? look, it's there!" i was changing him and letting him air out for just a second and next thing i know that little wizzer was squirting everywhere! haha. he seemed not to mind so much. so off to the tub we went. which is his new love. he laughs out loud in the tub now all the time because of all the kicking and splashing and hosing down that gets done.
blowing more raspberries and grabbing those toes while he was in his car seat.
yesterday we went to park city with bryce and sal and bentley. we took brad's work car and got the boys in the third row seat. it was FREEZING by the time we were finished shopping and the boys were so good the whole time. see how happy they were to get going home?
and last but certainly not least HAPPY EASTER! the easter bunny dropped off a pretty rockin basket for reese. he got some new socks, a little rolling stones t-shirt, and a soft book that is a photo album. he also got a cute rattle that was the hungry caterpillar but i brought it to park city with us yesterday and LOST IT! i was so dang mad! i should have just saved it for easter... oh well!
it's so fun to watch reese learn new things. i know every baby does all of these little things but i just find myself in awe as i see reese do them.
this week his newest thing is to cough and cough until i give him my full attention. So. Dang. Cute..
he loves his toes, he grabs them all the time and pulls on his socks.
he blows raspberries non stop. the other morning i had to go to work so i went in to get reese into his car seat and he was asleep. so once he was all in and in the car i decided to leave the blanket over his face so he could go to sleep. about five minutes into the drive i heard him blowing raspberries.. obviously not asleep. needless to say i took off the blanket.
he puts his fingers in his mouth all the time.
he laughs and laughs when brad tickles him with his whiskers.
when we have him in the bath we use the shower part to rinse him, he tries and tries to grab the water.
when he is tired i can just go put him in his crib and turn on his musical thing, and he gets himself to sleep.
watching BOLT with dad... he watched it for like 15 minutes.. i think he was tired.
