11 weeks! and i have to go back to work in 2! :(

ok, my cat just crawled across my lap and deleted the last picture! i knew he was jealous that i never put picutres of him on here anymore!

anyway, reese has been throwing us for a loop lately in that he wakes up in the night to eat and thinks it's playtime, this is VERY VERY BAD! he will wake up at one to eat, and when he is finished he won't go back to sleep until about three, and the worst part is that we don't know what to do. he just squacks and squacks, and we leave him alone and eventually he will cry, but as soon as one of us goes in there he quits... so i don't know what to do! the other thing is that he is waking up before it is time to eat, like it's only been two and a half hours since his last feeding, so i don't know if i should just feed him or make him wait til it's time, risking him waking up more... hmm. the thing is, when he was sick we were rocking him to sleep all the time. and i think that is what caused this little monster, he just wants to be held while he sleeps. so i have gone back to my book (12 hrs of sleep by 12 weeks old) in desperation, and i am trying to follow it to get him on a decent schedule. the only thing with that is when i go back to work it's gonna throw it off again! what to do? any advice is welcome!

Other than that reese is such a GOOD baby! he hardly ever cries and smiles and says, "aaaa-goo" all the time, especially for brad. it is the cutest thing ever! we are going to bless him this sunday, and i think i am going to have to start buying size 2 diapers! the last couple of days we have had several blow outs.. and by the way huggies suck! pampers all the way... ok i will stop ranting, for now...

I'm sorry about your rough nights! I had my far share of those. I don't really know what to tell you. I think it just takes time. You can try to do all the things the books say but I think it totally depends on the baby. Good luck!! :) Reese is a cutie!

I can't believe it's been that long since you've moved in and had Reese and now your heading back to work in a few. Time flies, well at least for me. Babies are smart and they like to be held. Just slowly wean him (crying is good for everyone) and then in time he'll get his schedule back - I hope. I love Reese's glow.

He is so cute! Sorry about the sleeping thing. I'm not an expert, but I found with Spencer that it was better to hold him off on feedings (I know that goes against the "feeding on demand" thing). If I fed him before three hours then he didn't eat as much and then 2 hours later he wanted to eat again. As for sleeping, I finally had to let him cry it out one night, luckily that's all it took. Good luck!

You probably don't remember me, but we were in the student ward together. I saw your blog on another fellow ward member's list. Just wanted to give you some advice on this issue. My oldest did the same thing. He was so happy about about 1 in the morning. I'd do his feeding and he would be so awake. It was the best time because he was so cute and would smile and coo, but I was so tired. So, for the short while it happened, I tried to embrace it and just relish in his cuteness, but it got old fast. What I started doing is feeding him in the dark while rocking him. I didn't change his diaper unless I had to and if I did, I did it before I fed him. I would sing to him while feeding and then as soon as I was done, I'd put him back in bed and leave. It took about 2 weeks when I started doing this before he would go to sleep. I also worked on it during the day so when he was feeding during the day, I would make him stay awake and not let him sleep afterwards and make sure I was consistent in his feedings during the day so when he went to bed, he was full and tired and maybe wouldn't need so many feedings and sleep, but at night after I fed him, I would encourage him to go to sleep. It seemed to work very well with him, but not my second so just try different things and see what he likes. My first also liked music in his crib while he was going to sleep.
Good luck!! Going back to work is the hardest thing I ever had to do. I still struggle with it.

I love that little chubba-bubba! That pic with shanea and your mom looks like he's using his legs! Yay Reese!

As far as the sleeping/playing thing goes....it's a phase, and it will (hopefully) pass. My first advice, honestly, throw the book out the window. Babies go thru spurts, and while schedules are great, they don't work all the time...ya know?? It's great to have guidelines to follow, but the best guideline is your baby. I personally would "cluster feed" my babies starting about this age - meaning I would feed them more often in the evening/bedtime, and it seemed to help keep them fuller longer and they'd sleep better. It might be worth trying, just feed him an extra time or two (for not as long, maybe) before bed.

I say that, but then my dear sweet Quinten decided at 16 weeks (his first EI) to not sleep thru the night again, consistantly, until we moved into our new house!!! With him, I knew he wasn't hungry, but if I went in there he'd throw a fit until I would "comfort nurse" him, so I would send Matt in instead and he'd be asleep in minutes.

And, if you don't think he's hungry, but just wanting to play/be held/whatever it is totally okay to let him cry it out for a bit.

Love you! Call me if you need a break or a nap, I'll take him off your hands for a couple hours!

You are wrong. Huggies are the best:)
I really like the Kirkland brand from Costco. They are pretty good. Your baby is adorable. I am lucky to have a really happy baby too. She is crawling everywhere and is into it all. Cute Pics

Sorry about your sleep problem. I have no good advice. I think you are probably right about the rocking him to sleep. They get spoiled and then can't handle life without you. Apri loved to be rocked to sleep. Good luck! I am sure you will find the answer.
